ESR3 - TRUTHS

for Climate Workshop

27-28 June 2024 | ESA-ECSAT

SESSION: Intercalibration of Climate Observing Systems & Products Operating in UV-VIS-SWIR

The introductory talks (and discussions) will cover:

       1. Satellite intercalibration ecosystem

      • Overview, latest advances, plans and challenges by 2030 and beyond

       2. Key SW-VIS-NIR calibration challenges

      • Radiometric calibration challenges for Broadband multi/hyperspectral missions
      • Characterisation of vicarious calibration targets (PICS, DCC, Moon)
      • SI-traceability of ECV CDR & FCDR

The objectives of the facilitated discussions are:

       1. Identify how to integrate TRUTHS products (and other SITSat) in EO missions’ Cal/Val and long-             term monitoring?

       2. Identify the needs and requirements related to BRDF characterisation of vicarious calibration                   targets (e.g. DCC, PICS)

       3. Define best practices to utilise TRUTHS to improve the radiometric accuracy of historical FCDR

       4. Identify where TRUTHS observations might contribute directly to ECV CDR observations or                     retrieval improvement.

       5. Specify the required TRUTHS products (L1,2 & 3), including data access, content and timeliness             including considerations of the spatial and temporal resolution/averaging and required metadata,             etc., for:

                   a. TOA spectral radiance & reflectance (for e.g. SNOs requirements, validation campaigns,                          retrieval improvement)

                    b. BRDF for vicarious calibration sites and scenes
