ESR3 - TRUTHS

for Climate Workshop

27-28 June 2024 | ESA-ECSAT

SESSION: CLIMATE MODELS & PARAMETERS

The introductory talks (and discussions) will cover:

       1. Climate models ecosystem

      • latest advances, key differences and challenges,
      • development roadmap and requirements by 2030+,
      • TRUTHS sampling: averaging and COSP status & development plans,

       2. Satellite products/benchmarks for Climate models and parameters (including plans to enhance               ECVs, Sentinels etc.)

      • Key variables required to constrain model sensitivity / enhance model capability relevant to UV-VIS-SWIR
      • Key processes and regional uncertainties that UV-VIS-SWIR data could contribute to

       3. Solar variance and its impact on the Earth system

The objectives of the facilitated discussions are:

          1. Specify the TRUTHS products (L1,2 & 3) for modellers (GCMs, Regional, domain, processes),                including data access, content and timeliness including considerations of the spatial and                          temporal resolution/averaging and required metadata, etc., for:

                   a. TOA spectral radiance & reflectance

                   b. Surface spectral reflectance

                   c. Incoming SSI/TSI at TOA

                   d. Opportunistic obs, e.g. night-time total emitted radiation of the Earth,

       2. Identify the products which are used by modellers which could be enhanced/enabled by                           TRUTHS (e.g. x-cal, SI-traceability & quantified uncertainties, etc.)

       3. Identify the tools required to exploit these data (e.g. COSP, data subsetting, etc.)
