3rd ESA Scout HydroGNSS User Workshop

ESA-ECSAT / ONLINE

20 NOVEMBER 2026

We are pleased to announce the 3rd ESA Scout HydroGNSS User Workshop, taking place on 20 November 2026. Participants can either attend in person at ESA-ECSAT or join the workshop online.

The workshop will introduce the HydroGNSS mission, including the satellites, instruments, ground segment and the new measurements available for the scientific retrieval of geophysical products.

The mission is part of the European Space Agency’s Earth Observation FutureEO programme and aims to advance our understanding of Earth’s hydrological cycle. Its measurements will provide new insights into natural processes and help us better understand how human activities are affecting land and water.

HydroGNSS uses GNSS reflectometry to measure navigation signals reflected from Earth’s surface, including signals from Galileo and GPS satellites. The mission will provide observations of key climate variables such as soil moisture, inundation and wetlands, freeze-thaw conditions, above-ground biomass, ocean wind speed and sea ice extent.

The workshop will cover:

  • The HydroGNSS mission, satellites, instruments and ground segment
  • New HydroGNSS measurements and their use in retrieving geophysical products
  • Products available at Data Levels 1, 2 and 3
  • The relationship between HydroGNSS products and Essential Climate Variables
  • Progress with calibration and validation
  • Discovery data, sample scripts and test data
  • The integration of future HydroGNSS products with other datasets used in climate and meteorological models

The programme will also include a round-table discussion exploring how HydroGNSS products can contribute to improved hydrological and climate knowledge.
