The ESA SARvatore on-line and on-demand processing service for the advanced exploitation of Sentinel-3 and CryoSat-2 data

Saturday 29th September 10.50 -12.50

The scope of this course is to introduce participants to the ESA SARvatore (SAR Versatile Altimetric Toolkit for Ocean Research & Exploitation) processing service for Cryosat-2 and Sentinel-3.
ESA has initiated the SARvatore service to support research activities with advanced CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3 products tailored specifically for scenarios of interest in radar altimetry (open ocean, coastal zone, inland water domain & polar regions).
Following an introduction on SAR theory and applications, attendees will learn how to access and use the SARvatore service integrated in the ESA Grid Processing on Demand (GPOD) system. This environment includes over 350 CPUs in about 70 working nodes and more than 330 TB of local on-line Storage (plus 180 TB of EO data).

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Correctly set the configuration options to run the processing according to their specific needs.
  • Download the output products (Satellite Pass Ground-Track in .kml format, Radar Echogram Picture in ,png format, L2 Data Product in NETcdf format containing all the scientific results) to their personal FTP Server.
  • Visualise and evaluate the obtained results using applications such as the Broadview Radar Altimetry Toolbox (BRAT) and Python.
